Just give me the food, I'll feed myself

My little miss independent has decided she wants to feed herself for the most part. While I think this is mostly a great thing, I already miss the look of love and the open mouth awaiting the spoon. The looks I get now are really of pure annoyance and frustration. I thought I could compromise by giving Sophia her own spoon while I fed her breakfast of oatmeal and fruit. That lasted a few days, but I think besides the occasional compliance, our girl is on her own, finger fooding it.

9 months old

It's getting a bit harder to get Sophia to sit still for a monthly photo shoot. She's on the go now! Well, sorta. She is so close to crawling--I mean, this close to really going. But so far she hasn't taken off. But what she's lacking in the mobility department, she sure makes up for in fine motor skills and vocalization. The fine motor skills come in quite handy because Sophia's favorite hobby is food. This girl can eat. No wonder she's in the 90th percentile for weight. She loves to feed herself now so I'm trying to get creative in figuring out age appropriate finger foods. As for vocalization, she is very demanding when she wants your attention. She makes it known by screaming like a pterodactyl.

A new project

A girlfriend came up with an idea for a group of us to take 12 pictures on the 12th day of the month for the whole year. I'm still figuring out my new camera and also figuring out how to journal the day, along with present the pictures, but the following post is basically what yesterday was about. It was fun though!

Our day on the 12th...

I love when Sophia wakes up from her morning nap; she always greets me with a big smile like she can’t wait to start her day.

Cheerios have recently been introduced to the menu now that Puffs have been mastered. This starts the 10 AM breakfast snack while I get cereal and fruit ready.

Molly thought she could sneak back into a corner and watch Sophia play, undetected. Little did she know it only made her more accessible to her grabby hands.

I thought I could get out of Trader Joe’s with two bags this trip. Silly me.

We had an unexpected laundry day, after a blow-out led us back home in a hurry. The article of clothing lived to see another day.

Ah, the remote--the motherboard of the household.

It was an unseasonably warm day with record temps in the mid 70’s. A perfect day to be out and about running errands.

And back out to Old Navy to return a sweater that I bought without trying on. I didn’t notice the big hole in the sleeve. Hoped they had gotten another shipment of long sleeved onsies in, but no such luck.

Settling in for the evening with a little reading. Sophia is fascinated with books, so I use that to my advantage to put all the clothes away.

Ruger is slowly getting used to the camera. He still hunkers down, but at least he doesn’t take off running. This is the first time he’s stayed where he was for the camera.

I hate washing bottles. Rick’s been taking over this task at night after washing the dishes. It’s so nice!

It’s tough to make dinner and find entertainment for Sophia, so she usually plays in the activity saucer while I’m cooking. Rick just got home from work and is giving her some love.

Daddy's first

Yesterday was Sunday which usually means family day, which also means that Rick is typically around for the full day, which for me means that he gets a lot of bonding time with Sophia. During his morning bonding time (i.e., my time to take a shower in peace), he witnessed Sophia pulling up for the first time. As I'm leisurely walking into the family room, where Rick is watching football and Sophia is happily playing with her toys on the mat, Rick says to me ever so non-chalantly "Sophia just pulled up on the fireplace." My calmness was over in a split second. "WHATT?!! When? How did she do it? What did she go after?!?" As I'm running around trying to locate the camera and video camera. I swoop down beside her and clap my hands enthusiastically yelling, "YAY Sophia!!" startling the heck out of her. I place the toy that she was so smitten over back on the fireplace hearth, and poise my camera in anticipation. Oh yes, believe me, it did cross my mind to stage the photo-op. I thought maybe if I just stood her up, I could recapture the moment. But that would be cheating, wouldn't it? And somehow, it would take away from the memory that Rick got to witness his daughter pulling up by herself for the first time. And I suppose I'm OK with that.
